Yoo and Clodgo Shine in North vs. South Senior All-Star Game

Seniors Ye Jong Yoo and Nate Clodgo represented Heritage Christian in the Indiana North vs. South Senior All-Star game on November 13th. Both of them helped anchor the defense as their South team won 6-2. This was a great honor for these fine young men.

I was proud to be able to coach Ye Jong and Nate in their last high school soccer game. Both of them played well. Our side did not concede a goal when Ye Jong and Nate were on defense! Ye Jong and Nate's contributions to the soccer program will truly be missed. God has great things in store for these two young men!

Eagles Fall at Semi-State

The Eagles lost 5-1 to 16th ranked Lawrenceburg to end their season. Lawrenceburg jumped on the Eagles early by scoring two goals in the first ten minutes of the game. Heritage continued to play hard but were not able to find the back of the net. The Eagles had a few great goal scoring opportunities but the shots went just wide. The score was 3-0 at half time. Lawrenceburg scored early in the second half making the game 4-0. Anders Rotto finally found the back of the net making it 4-1. As Heritage was pushing numbers into the attack, Lawrenceburg was able to sneak home another goal. The Eagles ended the season 10-8-2.

I was pleased with how we played. The early goal deficit did not happen because we were flat. We got beat by speed. We struggled against teams this year that had big, strong, and fast forwards. Lawrencburg had a forward that fit that mold. Buddenburg was the difference in the game. We also hurt ourselves by not being able to finish. We had some quality looks at the goal in the first half but pushed the ball wide on multiple occasions. Lawrenceburg capitalized on their chances and we did not. We were able to have good possession during the game so the score is not indicative of how the game actually played out.

This was a great learning experience for the guys. With such a strong returning class, hopefully we can return to Semi-State and advance to the championship game next year.

Anders Collects All-District Second Team Honors

Junior Anders Rotto has been voted to the All-District Second Team by area coaches. Anders is one of the team captains, and he has worked tirelessly all season long to control Heritage's midfield. He has nine goals and nine assists on the season.

District 4 is arguably the top district in the state. District 4 is loaded with large school teams like Carmel, Avon, North Central, Zionsville, Westfield, and Pike. District 4 is also represented with strong small schools like Chatard, Covenant Christian, Heritage Christian, Cardinal Ritter, Greencastle, and Lutheran.

This is a huge honor for Anders and our school. Anders is the first player that I have coached at Heritage that has been able to make one of the two district teams. This is also a team award. While Anders has done well individually this year, our state title run gave me leverage to use as I spoke on Anders' behalf.

Well done Anders!

All-State Academic Team

Seniors

Blake Ber
Ye Jong Yoo

Juniors

Jake Huff
Paul Jacobson
Anders Rotto

I am so proud of these boys. This recognition is a testament to their work ethic. Being a student athlete is a tall order to manage. What makes this award even more special is that these boys are also involved in the fine arts, student government, and youth group.

Well done boys!

Regional Champions!

The Eagles topped Centerville High School 5-1 to claim their first ever IHSAA Regional Championship. Playing in strong winds, the team was able to control the game for most of the 80 minutes. Graham Allgood got the Eagles on the board a minute into the game on a breakaway goal. Willie followed with a goal of his own about twenty minutes later. Centerville was able to capitalize on a Heritage mistake and found the back of the net. The game was 2-1 at the half.

Heritage came out strong in the second half. A beautiful left footed strike by Luke Peduto gave the team a two goal advantage. Goals by Anders Rotto and Sam Hall put the game out of reach. With the win, the Eagles improved their record to 10-7-2. The Eagles will face 16th ranked Lawrenceburg in the first Semi-State game.

I was very pleased with how the boys came out to play. The early goal was huge for us. The strong wind made it difficult for us to play possession soccer. It would have been nice to have finished more of our opportunities in the first half, but I was glad we had the lead at the half. Our play in the second half was outstanding. Our shots finally found the back of the net. Sam and Anders did an excellent job of controlling the midfield. The boys are ready for Semi-State!

Heritage Knocks Off Batesville in Regional Play

The Heritage Christian Eagles advanced to the regional championship game with a 2-1 OT win against Batesville High School. The pace of the game was fast. Both teams had opportunities to score in the first half, but both defenses held strong. The Eagles came out strong in the second half and were able to find some holes in Batesville's defense. Strong play from Willie Nguyen got the offense clicking for Heritage. With ten minutes to go, Willie beat Batesville'z goalie far post with a beautiful shot. Batesville responded with great passion and desire and found the back of the net with two minutes to go in the game.

In the first overtime, Kevin Yang was able to score from about 25 yards out to give Heritage the lead. Batesville brought waves of attacks but the Eagles were able to hold their ground the second time around to secure the win.

With the win, Heritage will play at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 15th for the regional championship. The Eagles will play host Centerville. The Eagles's current record is 9-7-2.

What a game! Batesville was one of the better teams we have faced this year. They were well coached and very skilled. I am so proud of how our boys played. The way the team rebounded after giving up the goal late in the game was huge. It is a testament to the desire and will of the boys.

2011 Sectional Champions!

The Eagles beat Lutheran High School 2-1 in overtime Saturday evening to win the first boys soccer sectional title in school history! Both teams came ready to play and the game was tied 0-0 at halftime. The Eagles came out strong to start the second half and Graham Allgood broke deadlock with a goal five minutes into the second half. Graham was able to get behind Lutheran's back line and slipped the ball by Lutheran's goalie. Lutheran tied the game with a penalty shot with 13 minutes to go in the game. During the first overtime period, Sam Hall lifted Heritage to a 2-1 lead with a left footed shot. The Eagles were able to hold on and kept Lutheran from scoring to close out the final overtime period. With the win, Heritage improves to 8-7-2. The Eagles will play Batesville on Thursday night in Regional play.

I was so proud of how the boys played in this game. I have never seen them so focused before a game. Our goal scorers came through and the back line was as strong as ever. Anders and Sam controlled the midfield. Jon was solid in goal. The boys followed the game plan perfectly and came away with a well deserved win.

Heritage Advances to Sectional Finals

The Eagles beat Scecina 2-0 on Wednesday to advance to the sectional finals. The boys started strong and put Scecina on its heels early. Anders Rotto broke the game open with a left footed shot that beat Scecina's goalie. Luke Peduto assisted on his goal. Anders and Luke connected again for a goal/assist combo but the roles were reversed. Anders sent a cross to the far post, and Luke went up high and banged home the goal with his head. The defense played strong and Jon Harman recorded the shutout in goal. The win gives the Eagles a 7-7-2 record. The team will play Lutheran on Saturday.

I am so proud of the boys. This is the first sectional win in a long time for the program. I am looking forward to seeing how the boys come out and play in the finals.I am confident that we will come out strong.

Rebuilding the Wall

The soccer team volunteered with Rebuilding the Wall for six hours this past Saturday. The boys were broken up into two groups. One group painted Rebuilding the Wall's office building. The other group cleaned a home in preparation for a young couple's move in date. All of the boys worked hard and they represented Heritage well. I was very proud of the boys!

Eagles Fall in City Tournament

The Eagles had a tough draw with year for the City Tournament. The team drew Bishop Chatard in the 1st round. The Eagles came ready to play but were unable to find the back of the net falling 2-0. Anders Rotto drilled the crossbar with about 15 minutes remaining. The Eagles had other chances but Chatard had a very solid back line. The loss drops Heritage's record to 6-7-2.

Our possession was much better this game from when we played them two weeks ago. Even though we lost, there were many posiitives to take from the game. We will start working towards earning our first ever Sectional Title.

Eagles Beat Greenwood Christian

The Eagles beat Greenwood Christian 9-3 this past Thursday evening. Sam Hall got the Eagles on the scoreboard and the flood gates opened from there on out. Graham Allgood, Anders Rotto, Luke Peduto, Willie Nguyen, and Teddy Phipps all scored the Eagles. The win brings Heritage's record to 6-6-2.

I was pleased with our performance. Anytime you get up 9-0 with 30 minutes to play is a good day! Sam did a fantastic job scoring a hat trick. We are making progress. Go Eagles!

Park Tudor Drops Heritage

The Heritage Eagles lost to Park Tudor 6-1 last Tuesday evening. The Eagles started the game well and had a few scoring opportunities. Park Tudor was able to get their first goal and then the goals kept coming for them. The loss dropped Heritage to 5-6-2.

I liked how we started the game. We had some big breakdowns which led to easy goals. Hopefully we can get that fixed going forward.

Senior Day Success

The Eagles hosted Broad Ripple on Saturday for senior day. Seniors Chris Sato, Nate Clodgo, Ye Jong Yoo, and Blake Ber led the way as the Eagles won 10-0. Luke Peduto scored off a cross early in the game which opened the flood gates. Seniors Nate Clodgo and Chris Sato also scored for the eagles. Fellow seniors Blake Ber and Ye Jong helped on defense to keep the clean slate. The Eagles are now 5-5-2.

I was glad to see the seniors leave the field for the last time during the regular season with a win. All four of our seniors have done well for us this season. Each of the boys have bright futures, and I am looking forward to see what God has in store for their lives.

Trojans Beat Eagles 3-1

Bishop Chatard beat Heritage Christian 3-1 this past Thursday evening. The Trojans jumped out to a fast start and were able to score on an unsavable shot from 12 yards out. The Eagles continued to work hard and were rewarded with a goal from Graham Allgood. Graham was able to slip past Chatard's back line and slip a pass from Sam Hall past Chatard's goalie. The score was 1-1 at half. Both teams came out strong to start the second half. The Eagles had a good goal scoring opportunity early but the keeper made a nice play on the ball. The Trojans broke the 1-1 on a header off of a free kick. The third goal came a few minutes later as a Chatard player was able to hit a well angled shot that hit the post and slipped in. The loss brings Heritage's record to 4-5-2.

This was a great learning experience for us. I was glad to see that we had the mental toughness to come back strong after getting down 1-0. It was one of those games where the first team to score in the second half goes on to win the game. Hopefully we will be able to get that first goal in upcoming games when the game is tied at half-time. We will continue to work on possession and gear up for our rematch with Chatard in the first round of the city tournament.

Cougars Top Eagles 1-0

The Eagles fell to a very talented Green-Field Central team 1-0 on Saturday night. Heritage played hard but were not able to keep a clean sheet. The Cougars were able to slip a ball past Chris Sato with about twenty minutes to go in the second half. Greenfield-Central's defense was solid to close out the game. The loss drops the Eagles to 4-4-2.

I was pleased with our effort. Our effort has been a strong point for us this season. The boys always come ready to play. I was disappointed that we were unable to possess the ball. Greenfield is a good team but we still should have been able to have more of a possession game. We were not able to generate much offense as well. Possession will be a focus for our training sessions starting on Monday.

Eagles Rout Metropolitan

A barrage of goals helped propel the Eagles past Metropolitan on Thursday night by a score of 9-0. Goals were scored by Kevin Yang, Anders Rotto, Nate Clodgo, Ben Clodgo, Sam Hall, Ryan Dietrich, and Warren. Chris Sato and Luke Warner combined for the shutout. The win brings Heritage's record to 4-3-2.

I was happy with our performance. I gave the boys a "script" to follow and it was followed perfectly.

Heritage Christian Ties Faith Christian

The Eagles tied Faith Christian 1-1 on Tuesday evening. Heritage scored first on a goal from junior Graham Allgood. Faith Christian was awarded a penalty shot in the second half and was able to find the back of the net to tie the game. Both teams had chances to win the game in the second half but a game winning goal never materialized.

I was pleased with how we started the game. In the second half, our legs just gave out. The boys had the right effort but we were clearly tired from Hoosier Cup. Chris really saved us tonight. He was incredible in goal. He has been improving each game and this was his best game in goal for us this season. I was impressed with how well Faith played. It was neat to see a fellow Christian school educating South Koreans as well.

Hoosier Cup Breakthrough

The Eagles had a strong showing at Hoosier Cup this past weekend. The team went 2-0-1 and improved their record to 3-3-1. The success was a total team effort. All of the players that went played and were instrumental to the strong showing.

On Friday night, the Eagles played Edgewood High School. The boys completely dominated the first half. Junior Anders Rotto was able to slot a left footed shot past Edgewood's goalie to put the Eagles up 1-0. During the second half, the boys continued their offensive attack but Edgewood's goalie made some incredible saves. The game ended 1-0.

On Saturday, the boys faced off against #11th ranked Providence High School. The Eagles came ready to play and quickly went up 1-0 on a right footed blast from Junior Anders Rotto. The boys kept the pressure and later added another goal from senior Jong Yoo. Jong flicked in a throw in from junior Sam Hall. The scored was 2-0 at half time. Forwards Graham Allgood and Kevin Yang pressed that action to start the second half and junior Graham Allgood put the Eagles up 3-0 on a break away pass from sophomore Kevin Yang. Providence was able to find the back of the net with seven minutes to go but the boys held on to win 3-1.

The boys finished the tournament with a game against #4th ranked Gibson Southern. Both teams came out strong and had opportunities to score in the first twenty minutes. At the twenty minute mark, the game was postponed due to the weather. When play resumed, the teams battled to a 0-0 tie.

I was very proud of the boys this weekend. I am always proud of them, but I told them I was especially proud of them this weekend for their efforts. The heat was brutal and the boys stayed focused on the games. We had the opportunity to play against two very good teams and we came away with two good results. I am confident that this weekend will serve as a spring board for us as we move forward with our season. We had so many players step up and play new positions. This experience will bold well for us going forward.

Tigers Take it to the Eagles

The Lebanon Tigers beat the Eagles 4-0 on Tuesday evening. The Eagles found themselves down 2-0 at half. The boys came out ready to play in the second half but the Tigers were able to add a third goal seven minutes into the half which put the game away. The Eagles continued to play hard and created a good number of scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, none were able to find the back of the net.

I was pleased with our effort. We came up against a team that was simply bigger, stronger, and faster. The second half showed promise of better things to come. Our spacing was better and so was our quickness of play. This was a great game to get us prepared for sectional play.

Eagles Fall to Covenant Christian

The Eagles lost 3-1 against a very good Covenant Christian team on Tuesday evening. Heritage struggled to contain Covenant Christian's forwards and quickly found themselves down 3-0. The boys continued to work hard though and were rewarded with a penalty shot. Junior Anders Rotto found the back of the net bringing the score to 3-1 at halftime. Unfortunately, lightening struck five minutes into the second half and the game ended up being called.

I was looking forward to seeing how the boys would respond in the second half. I was confident that our defense would be more sturdy and that we would find some offense. While it was tough losing the game, I believe there was a lot to be gained from the loss.

Eagles Get First Win of the Season against Arsenal Tech

Ryan Deitrich scored the first goal of the season and the Eagles ended up winning 3-1 against Arsenal Tech on Thursday night. Graham Allgood scored twice to give the team a comfortable three goal lead. Tech managed to score on a penalty kick late in the second half.

I was pleased with our effort. The field condition made it difficult to find a possession game. Anders Rotto and Sam Hall played well and there were plenty of goal scoring opportunities. Our finishing needs work, but I am confident that we will start to score more goals as the season progresses.

Eagles Fall in Home Opener

The Eagles lost to University High School 4-0 on Tuesday night. Both teams started strong but unfortunately the Trailblazers were able to net the opening goal with around 8 minutes left in the first half. I was happy with our effort and performance in the first half. We came out strong to start the second half but giving up the second goal really put us in a hole. We had a some good opportunities to score but were not able to find the back of the net. I am confident that we will rebound in our next game against Arsenal Tech.

Union County Scrimmage

The boys visited a very hospitable Union County team this on Saturday, August 13th. We started out a bit sluggish and conceded an early goal. After giving up the goal, the boys woke up and took command of the game. The boys scored five goals and had countless other opportunities that required the Union County's goalie make some great saves.

I am very pleased with how the boys performed today. There are things to fix but the good thing is that they are easy fixes. We will work on them this Monday at practice.

Season Kick-Off Party

Our season is finally underway! We had a great evening of food and fellowship at the Allgood's home. I am very excited for this season! It was great to see so many new families in the soccer program. I am very thankful for the parents in the program. The boys are very fortunate to have such loving parents!
